Mebane is a city located mostly in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States, and partly in Orange County, North Carolina. The town was named for Alexander Mebane, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the U.S. Congress.
Mebane is located at 36°5′45″N 79°16′15″W (36.095957, -79.270861). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.5 square miles (21.9 km²), of which 8.3 square miles (21.6 km²) are land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km²), or 1.36%, is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 11,393 people residing in the city. The population density was 1,363 people per square mile (480.7/km²). There were 5,045 housing units at an average density of 554.5 per square mile (214.2/km²).
